Two Royal Tyrrell outdoor programs have different participation rules, and their age labels do not describe the whole route. The museum's Fossil Hunting Hike is an all-ages, 90-minute activity. Children under 12 need a paid adult registered alongside them. Its two-kilometre route uses narrow, uneven dirt trails with slopes up to 25 degrees; the museum says it is not accessible to strollers or wheeled mobility devices.
The Badlands Adult Hike is for participants aged 16 and over. It also lasts 90 minutes over two kilometres, but is mainly paved with some off-trail exploration. Multiple slopes reach 12 degrees, and this route is also described as inaccessible to wheeled mobility devices.
Both pages publish fall schedules extending into October. Availability for a chosen departure still needs a booking check; the existence of a timetable is not evidence of an unsold place.
For a family comparing the programs, the relevant questions are separate: who may register, whether an accompanying adult is required, and whether each person can use the described terrain.
